Native to North America, the wild turkey is a large land bird easily recognizable by its reddish and blue head devoid of feathers. Turkeys are known for their vocalizations, especially during the mating season when they "gurgle." Turkeys are omnivores and feed on seeds, insects, small reptiles and other animals as well as fruits and berries. In this species, the male is called a turkey, the female a turkey, and the young turkey.
