The Trade-Off Handprinted Linocut- Living Room Art

HandmadeHeight: 29.7 centimetresWidth: 21 centimetresAnyone for tea?Forming part of the series of prints inspired by the local Dorset coastal history of West Bay and the surrounding areas, this linocut print explores the rich history of shipping trades in the area- the legal (rope and net making in Bridport) and the not-so-legal! West Bay has a rich history of sneaking in goods- tea leaf and grog being the main cargo that the residents of Bridport helped to smuggle ashore. Women were very involved in these trades, helping to knit and plait the materials into ropes and nets. Surprisingly, they were also key to the smuggling operations, sometimes filling their corsets and heavy dresses with bladders full of wines and spirits! So much so that one story tells of a smugglers ship wreck with the only survivor being a woman, held afloat by her dress filled with rum. This print is my take on these stories, plaiting together the different trades and blending them together in my recognisable style, printing on recycled paper using Caligo relief ink in a rich green.**** Dimensions- 21cm Width by 29.7cm Height (unframed)Printed on Recycled Printmaking paper using Caligo oil-based relief ink. Each print is handmade and unique so there may be tiny variations from the picture. All prints are signed and edition by me.
