The Foolish Franglish collection is the magic of linguistic and cultural shock created by French idiomatic expressions literally translated into English. Obviously, they become totally absurd for some, whereas, originally, they are anchored in a culture for others. This break in meaning, this absurd side makes me laugh and I illustrate it with realistic collages (kitsch) in characters with an expression close to this Chinese whispers, this emotional elevator that is the sausage of stupidity (stop making the SAUSAGE) or even the fart of the cable (farting a cable – FARTING a cable)… The little extra: it’s the real English translation that’s hidden on the back. We learn to understand each other and appreciate the English-speaking cultural heritage and we are proud to master these little linguistic treasures that Google Translate will never “translate” for us.
