He is a major representative of the Art Nouveau style.

The Europe of the fin de siècle made Salome an obsession, showing off her deadly dance in operas, ballets, poems, paintings and much more. Now branded poisonous and depraved, she was the perfect symbol of the culture's decadent mood and its new distrust of female power.

Alphonse Mucha's Salomé is erotic and exotic in her filmic costume and stylized hair, a staple of Art Nouveau.

Her half-closed eyes are provocative, reflecting Mucha's interest in the new field of hypnotic suggestion.
