The story begins in 1828, when my ancestor Philippe Joseph Magnan discovered the process of making copra (coconut) oil by making copra cake to enrich the land on which he farmed. He subsequently created an oil mill to supply the soap factories in Marseille.
In 1914, Albert Magnan, my great great great grandfather, grandson of Philippe Joseph, created a soap factory next to his oil mill, in the Arenc district of Marseille.
