Black. Forest. White.

Black Forest and white – how naturally they go together and how they make sense is shown to us by the artist Joseph Carlson in his new book Black.Forest.White. He has tracked down the white of this mountain region with his camera and gives us insights into the nature of a phenomenon that is more than just color. In the many years that the artist has lived in the Black Forest, during which he travels through the solitude of the forest on his daily journeys, he has come close to white, or white has come close to him. This did not let him and his camera rest. Thus he gives the photographic cycle “Black.Forest.Country.“,The hymn to the colour black published in 2017 is now followed by the necessary counterpart, the cycle “Black.Forest.White.“.Joseph Carlson is an artist who paints with the camera. Using the colour white, he finds a way to explore the phenomenon of the Black Forest and, when we open this book, offers us a continuation of the previous one. It allows us to experience this landscape in an even more contemplative and meditative way. Let us follow Joseph Carlson into the forest that constantly inspires him: the “White Forest”.
