The rattles are hand-carved out of local wood that grows in abundance into the raw shape you see. They’re then filled with beads and hand-painted with the bright design that is unique to the island; creating the fun final product you see before you. Music is important to the people of Bali, as is art, combining these to make each instrument you see is a great way Balinese people find to respect their heritage. Buying this item helps to keep the small family unit who make them with steady work. Having a secure income means they can support their young daughter and give them a stable home. They used to make them in a small workshop where they had a shop but due to the Covid crisis, they now produce these items in their back yard, where they store all their locally sourced raw materials.
