The high-strength, copper-colored titanium nitride coating on one half of the scissors creates a self-sharpening effect, as the surface of the coated half of the scissors is about twice as hard as that of the non-coated half. As a result, the harder half is much more wear-resistant and straightens the cutting burr of the other, softer half with every opening / closing.
