The decision to build up the area was made in 2010 with the justification that Malmö would invest in music, culture, and entertainment, and construction began in 2012. The area was completed and formally inaugurated on June 4, 2015. The city quarter covers 90,000 square meters and includes, among other things, concert halls, congress centers, and hotels for visitors. A competition to organize the decoration of the area was held in 2014 and several works of art were chosen as winners. Interesting fact: Since the public opening, Malmö Live has been the public home of the Malmö Symphony Orchestra. The largest concert hall can hold up to 1,600 listeners.
