A light yellowish beverage that has the strength of coffee, the health benefits of tea and the euphoria of chocolate produced from the leaves of the holly tree of South American rainforests (ours is from Brazil). One would call it a herbal tea but it has the caffeine content of mild Arabica coffee. It is very versatile and can be had as hot tea served with milk and sugar with water or as a latte. It can also be had cold with a dash of lemon and honey. The possibilities are endless! A must have for every beverage hippy. The flavor of brewed mate is strongly vegetal, herbal, and grassy, reminiscent of some varieties of green tea with hints of tobacco and oak.
