The tangy touch of zaatar, that’s him! Very popular in Levantine cuisine, sumac is a spice with fruity and slightly lemony notes. In addition to its delicious taste, sumac is full of medicinal properties: with its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antidiabetic properties recognized for more than twenty centuries, it fully deserves the status of super condiment. Our sumac berries ripen under the sun of Qawzah, in the south of the Land of Cedars, a land renowned for the quality of its shrubs. Once dried and ground into powder, they can be sprinkled on fried eggs, in a chicken marinade or in a vinaigrette. Sumac is also the signature of the Lebanese “fattoush”, a raw vegetable salad emblematic of mezze. Otherwise, simply use it as a lemon substitute to make your taste buds sparkle!
