AYME: Handcrafted Midnight Blue Oblong Bike Basket

Give those two wheels an instant upgrade with the beautiful AYME bicycle basket. Designed in-house by The Basket Room, this striking bike accessory is primarily midnight blue, with a bold diamond pattern revealing a natural grass background. The very thing for picking up flowers at the local market and days out pedalling through the countryside, our woven bicycle baskets are spacious enough to store all your books and stationery, your picnic lunch, or your gym kit and trainers. Equally impressive as a front basket or as a pannier attached to the rear of your bike, the AYME can also be secured to stairway bannisters as a chic storage device, as well as bathroom towel rails and cots. Each bike basket is a work of art - taking up to three days to weave by hand - and is made from wild veta vera grass. This indigenous grass is hand-rolled and dyed in boiling water before it is ready to be woven by a skilled member of our partner weaving cooperative in Northern Ghana. Most weavers in the Northern Ghana cooperative are agricultural workers, though relying on a season’s rainfall makes for unpredictable living. Basket weaving – one of the oldest crafts known to man – has become a source of alterative income for these communities in the dry seasons, helping families to meet their basic living costs more comfortably. If your basket gets wet, simply leave it to dry naturally and re-shape. When not in use, we recommend storing somewhere completely dry (and damp proof!) As each basket is individually handmade, some variation in size and colour may occur.
