TAWALA: Rose Pink Woven Storage Basket

Bring soft, rosy hues and natural woven texture to your interiors with our TAWALA vintage pink baskets, which come in two sizes. Hand woven from local sisal grass by a skilled craftswoman working within a small weaving group in rural Kenya, these pretty pink baskets make fabulous storage for jewellery, gloves and slippers, pens and pencils and craft materials - and can be used as both small and large planters for your house plants.  Once upon a time the weavers who produce these storage baskets would travel regularly to Nairobi to sell their wares, but The Basket Room now provides them with regular work. Completed baskets are then stored in purpose-built mud huts before being shipped to us. As demand increases, the collective continues to thrive and grow under the guidance of its inspiring Chairlady, Madam Dorcas Ndinda. Basket production takes place primarily during the dry seasons, since most weavers are from farming communities who rely on subsistence farming and rainfall to sustain their families.
