It was given by an anonymous donor to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, where it still hangs today. </p> <p>The soft melting pocket watch epitomizes Dali’s theory of “softness” and “hardness”, which was central to his thinking at the time. </p> <p><strong>About Salvador Dalí<span> </span><br></strong>Salvador Dalí (born May 11, 1904, Figueres, Spain—died January 23, 1989, Figueres) was a Spanish  ;Surrealist painter and printmaker, influential for his explorations of subconscious imagery. 

Major themes in his work include dreams, the subconscious, sexuality, religion, science and his closest personal relationships. 

To the dismay of those who held his work in high regard, and to the irritation of his critics, his eccentric and ostentatious public behavior often drew more attention than his artwork.</p>
