At dawn, Christophe goes hiking with his grandmother. She gives him a stick that she chooses around. This stick becomes the companion of their walk, the witness of their adventure and their complicity. On walks, all children pick up sticks and become particularly attached to them. Based on this observation, the authors provide here several images of a simple piece of wood. In addition to its concrete aspects: keeping a dog away, being a point of support, etc. It creates a link between generations, it is a tutor, a guide, a personal totem. The illustrations, by Marie Détrée-Hourrière, made with markers are treated with lines, in stick, in order to serve the text of Orianne Aymard, pilgrim and mountaineer.
