For more than 100 years, VARTA® has provided high quality batteries with advanced technology, powerful performance and outstanding service around the world.
Varta A. G. is a company and a brand of electric batteries, accumulator batteries and chargers belonging to the American group Spectrum Brands.
It all started in 1887, when Adolf Müller founded the company Büsche & Müller in Hagen, Germany, which would become the precursor to VARTA.
In the 1890s, AEG and Siemens started producing accumulators and invested in Müller's company. This new entity is called Accumulatorenfabrik AG, or AFA. In 1904, AFA created the VARTA brand for the marketing of small portable lead-acid batteries, intended to start engines instead of the crank.
As early as the 1900s, VARTA innovated by offering superior quality batteries for automotive lighting. In 1934, the number of cars on the road worldwide exceeded 3 million, stimulating a strong demand for reliable and powerful starting batteries. VARTA becomes one of the main market leaders, notably equipping the first forklifts with batteries.
Over the decades, VARTA has continued to innovate by offering increasingly high-performance batteries. In the 1960s, batteries went from 6 V to 12 V, which represented a major challenge for VARTA.
In the 1990s, VARTA continued to innovate by launching batteries for vehicles equipped with Start-Stop systems, allowing considerable fuel savings.
The company has also launched batteries for consumer electronics, such as smartphones, laptops and power tools. VARTA batteries are manufactured with the highest quality standards, ensuring superior performance and long life.
