Buffon's Zoological Magnets - National Museum of Natural History

This toy is recommended for children aged 2 and up. We are very proud of this Vilac x National Museum of Natural History collaboration. Georges-Louis Leclerc, Count of Buffon, (1707-1788) directed the Royal Botanical Garden for almost fifty years, from 1739 until his death: his Natural History, in 36 illustrated volumes, was a success from the moment it was published. The animal representations contained in the book have served as a source of inspiration for fine arts, fashion, decoration, educational works and children's books. This is evidenced by the Le Buffon lotto game: an illustrated lotto game, decorated with all kinds of species, published in Paris by Appert fils and Vavasseur around 1840. The 96 animal figures on the 24 boxes that make it up were created by Nicolas Fleuri Jannin. These magnets are inspired by the illustrations featured in the lotto game, a copy of which is kept at the National Museum of Natural History, within the collections of the Libraries and Documentation Department. Laboratory-tested toy, guaranteeing compliance with Directive 2009/48/EC for children aged 2 and over.
