Built in 1904, the Astor Hotel had elaborately decorated public rooms and a beautiful rooftop garden with a bandstand and an observatory. Situated in New York’s Times Square, it was a popular pre-theatre meeting place and the restaurant thoughtfully provided the curtains-up time for all the plays that were on Broadway, including South Pacific, Dial M for Murder and The Seven Year Itch.
