Oscar, Unknown Airport Children's Menu 1940s - 50x76cm (20x30 inch) Archival Print (Unframed)

This is a great example of the creative mastery of vintage menu artists – a delightful chef with a friendly expression on his face soars through the sky-so-blue to feed children who might be excited – or afraid – of their first flight in an aIrplane. Judging by the prices of children’s meals, this menu is dated in the 1940s but this is only a guess and – despite our research – we don’t yet know in which US state this airport was located. If anyone has information, please let us know by contacting us at hello@lovemenuart.com. The inside is equally charming with menus such as the Non-Stop Special, the Hedge Hopper and the Captain De Luxe written on clouds and there is an aerial banner at the top flown by a propeller plane. In the early era of domestic flight, airports were often exciting places to eat. Even if you couldn’t afford to fly, families would go to airports to watch take-offs and landings and then have a meal at restaurants which were often run by successful hotels. It sounds like Little Oscar kept many budding pilots happy. Courtesy Private Collection. EACH PRINT IS ACCOMPANIED BY A COPY OF THE INTERIOR MENU WHERE AVAILABLE.
