The Hurricane Nightclub, New York, 1940s - A1 (594x840mm) Archival Print (Unframed)

What's a naked lady, her modesty covered by only a few palm fronds, doing in New York in the early 1940s? She's gracing the front cover of the menu of the legendary restaurant and nightclub The Hurricane. This nightspot in the Brill Building evoked the atmosphere of the South Pacific, with a décor of palm trees and tropical flora and fauna. Big band leader Duke Ellington played here and it was one of the first nightclubs to have an integrated clientele. It operated from 1940 to 1944. The image, created by Chicago artist Wesley Morse who also illustrated covers for El Morocco and The Copacabana among many others. Courtesy Private Collection. EACH PRINT IS ACCOMPANIED BY A COPY OF THE INTERIOR MENU WHERE AVAILABLE. WE MAKE OUR PRINTS WITH ARCHIVAL-QUALITY FINE ART PAPER, USING PROFESSIONAL PIGMENT INKS. PROPERLY FRAMED OR STORED, OUR PRINTS WILL LAST 70+ YEARS WITHOUT FADING OR DISCOLOURING. ALL OUR PRINTS UP TO A2 SIZE ARE MADE IN-HOUSE IN THE UK.
