Spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia or Lavandula spica), is a broadleaf lavender species that grows at sea level (below 800 meters). Mainly in southern France and Spain. The plant is larger than true lavender and needs a lot of heat to grow. Spike lavender flowers for about 3 to 4 weeks with fresh-smelling light purple flowers. Oil is extracted from the plant via steam distillation. You get about 500 to 800 grams of oil from 100 kilos of flowers. So you need a lot of flowers! The transparent or light yellow organic oil smells spicy, camphor-like and can be used in aromatherapy. The organic oil smells more powerful than the pure lavender essential oil. A fresh, invigorating scent for the whole home.
