The sustainable handwork of the bag series "Chichi" The fronts of these bags, wallets and purses are made from elaborately hand-embroidered, traditional costumes (“huipils”) in Guatemala: the well-preserved regions of the huipils are washed and cut out after they have been worn for a long time. Then they are made into bags and other new products by sewing them into new cotton fabrics. Most often these fabrics are solid denim fabrics in blue or other rather dark or white striped colors. The inner lining consists of an equally robust, solid denim fabric, similar to soft denim. The manufacturers are small tailors or seamstresses who only take small orders in home work. In Central America, tailoring is more common among men than among women. We work with family businesses that pay and insure their employees well. This is also a fair trade product. The colors The colors of the "Chichi Lux" purses couldn't be more different. So hardly anyone will be able to buy the same wallet as you! This is due to the diversity of the Guatemalan costumes, which have different colors and patterns in the respective villages. Larger flowers or fish, geometric figures or patterns or even floral patterns can appear.
