Rosa Parks Wall Art

Who is Rosa Parks? Rosa Louise McCauley Parks (February 4, 1913 - October 24, 2005) was an American activist in the civil rights movement. Life for African Americans was hard. There were a set of laws that claimed to give African Americans "separate but equal" statusand treatment but, in truth, there was no 'equality' whatsoever. These racist laws known as the 'Black Codes'restricted them to low-paid jobs and made it incredibly difficult for them to vote. The laws also meant that black people could be arrested for the smallest thing. On December 1, 1955, after a long day at work, Rosa got on the bus and took a seat. At that time in Montgomery, seats at the front of the busses were reserved for white passengers and the seats at the back for black passengers. When the bus became full and a white man boarded, the driver asked Rosa to give up her sear and move to the back of the bus. But she refused and therefore got arrested. This sparked a boycott of the city's transportation system that lasted for over a year with the US Supreme Court eventually ruling that Alabama's racial segregation was unconstitutional. ———————- Rosa Parks Quote Art Print This illustrative art quote is from my “Badass Girls in History” series art prints.
