Betaine Hydrochloride: An acid form of betaine, a vitamin-like substance found in grains and other foods. Used to provide hydrochloric acid as an aid to digestion, as production declines with age. A deficiency in gastric acid secretion increases the likelihood of certain intestinal bacterial and parasitic infections. The shortage of hydrochloric acid also impairs the digestion of food (especially protein) and the final absorption of nutrients. Bromelain: It is a proteolytic and food digestion enzyme with high fat content, derived from the stem of the pineapple plant. It is used as a digestive, anti-inflammatory, smooth muscle relaxant, digestive and anti-edema aid. It inhibits the production of prostaglandins associated with inflammation and pain, while promoting the formation of prostaglandins with anti-inflammatory actions. It also helps reduce mucous congestion. It is ideally taken with turmeric for digestive problems. It can also help the absorption of curcumin, the active component of turmeric. Papain: A protein-digesting enzyme found in the papaya fruit. Protease: An enzyme that aids in the digestion of proteins. Amylase: An enzyme that helps digest carbohydrates.
