Grilled Fried Onions

Fried onions are a delicious addition to many dishes, offering an unmistakable flavor with a slight toasty note and a sweet sweetness with a hint of heat. The origin of the use of fried onions in cooking is unclear, but traces date back at least to 1933, with recipes mentioned in The New York Times Magazine and claimed by the Kirby's Pig Stand restaurant chain in Texas.  From a nutritional point of view, onions are already beneficial for health, being a rich source of vitamin C, vitamin B, trace elements and minerals such as selenium and potassium. They are also recognized for their antioxidant properties, helping to fight premature cellular aging, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and protecting against digestive cancers. However, fried onions, while delicious, are less nutritionally favorable. It is therefore preferable to choose products containing onions in large quantities and with a short list of ingredients (onions, oil, flour, salt) and to consume them in moderation.  Fried onions are versatile in cooking, adding crunch and flavor to preparations, both raw and cooked. They can be sprinkled on raw vegetable salads, mixed salads, or used to give texture to vegetable soups. They pair perfectly with fish and white meats, especially in hot dogs and burgers in the United States, as well as in Asian cuisine, including makis and bo buns.  To preserve their crispness and reveal their sweetness, it is advisable to add the fried onions at the end of cooking.
