Pink salt comes from underground deposits that formed when lakes and seas dried up over 200 million years ago. The slow evaporation of water from the Thetys Ocean that separated the Indo-Australian and Eurasian plates in the Primary Era left behind these pinkish salt crystals. They are extracted in the heart of the Himalayan mountains.
