Miner's pastilles have their origins in India where plant extracts were used to clear the respiratory tract. It was in 1957 that Georges Verquin had the idea of making candies which he distributed in the North where mining activity was still significant. These Pastilles were then consumed mainly during working hours. They compensated for the desire to smoke and provided a pleasant feeling of freshness in the mouth.
