Tea is one of the most popular beverages in the world and several million tons of tea are consumed every year. And the variety of teas from all over the world is really huge. But where do all the different types of tea actually come from? Tea growing areas can be found on almost every continent. Most of them, however, are in Southeast Asia, as the climatic conditions there are optimal for tea plants. Green and white tea as well as oolong tea, pu-erh tea and jasmine tea come from China, and green tea and matcha, for example, also come from Japan. The varieties Assam, Darjeeling, Dooars and Nilgiri, which are particularly popular with the British, are grown in India and the famous Ceylon tea in Sri Lanka. But black tea like Kericho from Africa is also becoming increasingly popular. And the often flavoured rooibos tea from South Africa is also very well known in Europe. Growing hot and cold beverages that are popular nationwide in Europe, as in all these countries, has so far proven difficult due to the climate. And yet there are also tasty teas from European regions such as Albania. For example, two types of mountain tea come from there, which not only taste very good, but are also traditionally used by the locals as a medicinal remedy. A distinction is made between the Çaj mali mountain tea made from red oregano, which comes from the north of the country, and the Çaj jugu mountain tea made from Sideritis Syriaca, which is native to the south of the country. Both types of tea are ideal for warming up in winter and as a refreshing drink in summer when drunk cold and flavoured with lemon and honey. Healing and health-promoting properties Mountain tea is not only considered a warming and refreshing drink in Albania, but is also often used to treat ailments. This primarily includes the treatment of respiratory diseases such as coughs or colds. But mountain tea is also often used to treat digestive problems. It also strengthens the immune system and has a slightly mood-enhancing effect.
