'MOON' GOLDEN SMOOTH BRASS GLASS

The lassi glass revisited Moon: the brass retains its original color. Multiple hand polishing operations are necessary to obtain this smooth effect, which always remains irregular and makes each piece unique. The creator of Karawan was inspired by the lassi glass (traditional Indian drink made from fermented milk) to design the line of this glass/vase with multiple functions. It will brighten up a bathroom set, as well as a guest table, with a touch of nature. UTENSILS FOR BATH AND HOSPITALITY With these objects which sign gestures of welcome, the space is recomposed over time, according to inspiration, according to the passages, it becomes a place where the heart settles for the encounter. The bowls in 2 sizes are used in the hammam to rinse, to drain the water collected from the basins or are used as containers for treatment preparations: rhassoul scrub, black soap... or as a pocket for gloves, sponges… The Karawan collection of hammam trays and bowls is handmade in a workshop in the old bazaar of Delhi. They are shaped in multiple operations from a sheet of brass which is an alloy of copper and zinc. For 5 generations, the KAMAL family has passed down and developed this brassware know-how which brings together several manual stages. The workshop is firstly based on a solid family alliance. Traditional and innovative, this family has been able to adapt and develop working conditions while keeping the artisanal tradition. In the old bazaar of Chandni Chok, they are among the last to use this handmade knowledge, facing semi-industrialization using mold filling lines. Each successive step corresponds to a profession: “The Glider” shapes the brass sheets by hammering, using blacksmithing techniques. The “repusher turner” shapes the bowls using a lathe; the engraver will create details and ornaments on the object. The polisher takes care of the finishing. Around a hundred people work together in conditions that respect people and the environment. A third of the people belong to the same family and each trade is under the responsibility of a “muhalim”, master craftsman. Their desire to make this know-how known and perpetuate has led them to favor export over the past ten years. To do this, they were able to comply with ILO standards and exclude all child labor, investing heavily in the value of the artisans who constitute the great value of this workshop. The collection is compatible with food contact.
