It’s naturally fermented and carefully aged, so that it captures the unique characteristics of the Chianti countryside. This wine meets all the criteria to use a certain prestigious Tuscan classification – other than the fact it’s in a box. Luckily, missing out on a fancy DOCG label didn’t worry winemaker Valerio Marconi. In fact, he’s one of a long line of rebellious Tuscans... WINE Give your glass a really good swirl, then savour the cherries, raspberries and redcurrants that emerge. When taking a sip, imagine the smells inside a traditional Italian deli... Juicy red fruits, aromatic balsamic vinegar and a waft of sweet tobacco. Savoury flavours and a lick of acidity mean this wine tastes incredible with tomato-based dishes. We’d also highly recommend pairing it with a roaring fire. WINEMAKER Valerio Marconi has been honing his winemaking skills since he was a teenager. Put simply, he’s a perfectionist. Despite having made wine all around the world, Valerio’s passion is for the wines of Tuscany. His top-quality Sangiovese vineyards are based in the Medieval town of Radda, surrounded by picturesque olive groves, orchards and the gentle Chianti hills. DESIGN Your box is a bona fide work of art. If you were to walk into the gothic Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence and look up into Brunelleschi’s Dome, you might spot the figures on your Lot #7: Toscana. With every box of Laylo, we try to reflect the story of the wine in the design. Valerio’s wine is so firmly grounded in its sense of place, it made sense to choose a genuine piece of art from the region.
