Lot #3: Vino Rosso Vulcanico

Nero d'Avola & Nerello Mascalese | 13% ABV | 2.25L (3 Bottles) | Vegan Made from grapes grown on the slopes of Mount Etna, this Summer red could only be from Sicily. The spiced cherry flavours and soft tannins evoke the romance and fiery spirit of the island. WINE Give your glass a sniff and you’ll be rewarded with spiced cherry, red berries and star anise. On the palate this wine is medium-bodied and sophisticated, combining vivid red fruit with well-balanced, soft tannins. Pairs perfectly with generous pasta dishes. WINEMAKER 12 years ago Filippo returned to Sicily and bought a small vineyard on the slopes of Etna. It was in terrible condition, but he cultivated the precious old vines by hand. Eventually the yield was high enough to buy a second small vineyard. Today he owns 24 tiny vineyards, all at different altitudes on the volcano. He farms by hand or small machinery only, with minimal intervention. DESIGN The marbled design is intended to reflect Sicily’s volcanic earth. Its intense red, green and gold colours ground the design in the natural world - hot, sun-drenched soils, old gnarled vines and the shadow of Mount Etna. Look closely and you may notice some man-made features. These are our nod to childhood holidays spent browsing Italian paper shops, with their row upon row of marbled designs.
