The human story of this cafe: The Aprolma cooperative (Asociacion de Productoras Libres de Marcala) was founded in 2013, and currently has 69 exclusively female members. Most come from the native Lencas community. Each member cultivates an average of 1.5 ha in polyculture. To the coffee is added the production of bananas, oranges and Yucca. The objective of the cooperatvie is not only to produce quality coffee, but to offer a channel for emancipation by offering women social and financial stability. Three times parents, the producers come together to discuss the situation of the cooperative, elect the responsible members and organize the projects. In a country where women's rights are not taken into account, and where the rate of femicides is one of the highest in the world, a women's cooperative is particularly involved in issues of health and social integration. Like many cooperatives in Marcala, Aprolma has a central drying farm where crops are delivered and dried together. Part of the harvest is already paid at the time of delivery to the cooperative
