On the Cap Moderne site in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, the “Villa E-1027” designed by EILEEN GRAY, Irish designer and architect JEAN BADOVICI is an icon of avant-garde architecture of the late 1990s. 1920. Anchored in wild nature, it was joined over time by “L’Étoile de mer”, the restaurant of Nice plumber THOMAS REBUTATO and by the Cabanon of the famous architect LE CORBUSIER who also built five camping units for Rebutato. This set testifies to their modern and seaside lifestyle. Illustrated with archival documents and unpublished photographs by FRANÇOIS DELEBECQUE and written by CHRISTINE DESMOULINS, this book tells the fascinating human and architectural adventure of which this site was the setting, from the 1920s to the dawn of the 1960s. The numerous flaps to lift to discover photographs and texts offer a fun reading journey reflecting the diversity of habitats and gardens, enclosed in this little piece of heavenly land clinging to the rocks. The complete restoration of Villa E-1027 was completed in 2021, under the aegis of the Association Cap-Moderne, led by Michael Likierman, and on behalf of the Conservatoire du Littoral, owner of the site. It was carried out by a college of architects and experts. Authors: Christine Desmoulins & François Delebecque
