Syrah is the king grape variety of New World wines. Originally from the Rhône valley, this grape variety has found its place in dry and hot climates, such as that of the Swartland region (which means “black earth”) in South Africa. The combination of very dry conditions and ideal cool weather during the harvest period gave birth to very high quality wines. The growing season was characterized by cooler nights and hot, dry days, resulting in a healthy harvest and smaller, good intensity berries.
