Ceramic dessert bowl

Otaniyaki (Otani ware) is one of the representative ceramics of Shikoku (western Japan) and originated in the city of Oasa located in Tokushima prefecture for 230 years. In the production of large ceramics, such as large tall jars or water lily pots, the so-called “Nerokuro (literally, recumbent wheel)” method is used when forming the piece. Particularly famous for its unique pair work: One forms the clay, while the other lying on the ground kicks the potter's wheel to make it spin. Then these objects are placed in the Noborigama (literally, climbing oven) to be fired. This oven would be the largest in Japan. Originally built by the Awa clan in the 12th century, Koresuke Mori built another kiln and bakes pottery today in the same location to give birth to the first blue and white pottery of Otani in the same way. The colors may be slightly different depending on the manufacture of the handmade pieces.
