Reishi is a smooth, leathery, flat fungus with a red, varnished-looking cap, white or brown depending on the age of the specimen, with a bitter taste. It grows in warm subtropical climate zones, on the trunk of old, weak or dead trees. It is believed to have some effects on the immune system. Reishi mushroom is used for Alzheimer's disease, cancer, diabetes, cold sores, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses. Reishi is not recommended for people who: Are going to undergo an operation. Are taking anticoagulants, because this fungus already has anticoagulant properties. Diabetic people who have coagulation problems should consult their doctor if they can take Reishi or not.
