The richness of Mayan textiles reflects a historical testimony of an ancestral culture; as a vehicle for transmitting an identity through designs and symbols that carry meaning; as a utilitarian object that shows us aspects of daily life and, finally, as works of art, a reflection of its own aesthetic, the fruit of great technique and creativity. Originally, pompoms were part of Tzotzil clothing, with men and women using them to adorn hats, scarves or to braid their hair.
