Originally from Europe, mints have spread across the globe to North America, Australia and also Japan. Cultivated since antiquity for their medicinal properties, they were found in an Egyptian tomb dating from the year -1000. Mentha arvensis is a species of mint that belongs to the Lamiaceae family. It is a herbaceous plant with a strong aromatic smell, 10 to 60 cm tall, with whorled flowers located in the axils of the leaves. The leaves are oval, pointed and toothed. This perennial plant flowers from July to September and likes ditches, swamps and wet meadows.
