Used on the face, on the other hand, it helps to purify especially in case of oily or impure skin. How to recognize a true hydrolat? The hydrolat, commonly called aromatic water or essential water, is obtained simultaneously with the essential oil during the distillation of the plant: the hydrolat is water soluble, the essential oil is fat soluble. The waters to which essential oils are added to perfume them and which also contain an alcoholic percentage to stabilize them are not hydrolates. The waters that are produced by the perfume industry are created artificially and have an exclusively aesthetic value. Hydrolates have therapeutic qualities and can be used alone or mixed together, thus exploiting the synergy between different plants. Being delicate, they risk deteriorating quickly even if preservatives are added, for this reason hydrolates in dark glass bottles are preferable.
