Each textile is made in one of the last remaining tribes in the former Kingdom of Kuba in the Congo. In collaboration, men weave dried palm leaves into textiles and women embroider them with renowned designs. Textiles have traditionally had various uses as a means of commerce or currency. The most elaborate were worn by kings as a status symbol. Ethnographic pieces are exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide and are coveted by collectors.
