JIWA

Description Transform your home into an oasis of well-being: With the handmade raffia cushion Jiwa you bring a warm, inviting touch and a hint of tropical flair to your sofa or bed. Its soft raffia fibers create a relaxed atmosphere – like a touch of vacation in your own four walls. The stylish, square raffia cushion subtly enhances empty spaces and adds trendy boho vibes to any room. In addition to its elegant design, Jiwa impresses with its quality and sustainability. The locally harvested raffia fibers are gently dried under the tropical sun, giving them their natural, light color – completely without the use of chemicals. The plump filling made of locally harvested coconut fibers and cotton ensures lasting shape stability and a pleasant feel, so that the pillow remains permanently soft and comfortable. Jiwa is the product of traditional craftsmanship: on the Indonesian island of Java, skilled artisans weave raffia fibers using traditional needlework techniques to create a distinctive, long-lasting accessory. This elaborate technique creates an extraordinary braided pattern that will stylishly enhance your home. We combine this timeless quality with a special responsibility: Our products are manufactured under good working conditions, regularly monitored by us, with fair pay, and contribute to keeping Indonesia's cultural heritage alive. Material & Manufacturing The sustainable main material: Raffia The raffia used by our production partners is obtained from the leaves of the Gebang palm, which thrives in tropical, swampy areas in Indonesia. The fan-shaped leaves of the palm are carefully harvested without damaging them and then cut into fine fibers. These fibers are gently sun-dried to increase their natural strength and lighten them, and then either woven directly into basketry or twisted into cords, which are also used in many handmade home accessories such as placemats. Raffia not only stands for sustainable and stylish home accessories, but also for the preservation of centuries-old craft techniques and the responsible use of natural resources. Other materials: cotton, coconut fiber. You can find out how to properly care for our products with their special materials here. The manufacturing process: From raw material to finished cushion Our Jiwa cushions are made by skilled artisans on the Indonesian island of Java. They weave the dried raffia fibers into a square cushion using the traditional needle technique. The pillow is then filled with coconut fibers and cotton. Making a pillow takes about 1.5 hours in total and requires a lot of patience and craftsmanship. Our production partners: Strictly selected according to fair trade criteria When selecting our local production partners, we attach importance to fair pay, safe working conditions and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small family businesses that have a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. They are exclusively adult and experienced artisans. Older people in particular, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in handicrafts, as they can use the skills they learned at an early age to earn money and pass on traditional manufacturing methods to the younger generation. They often told us how happy they were to be able to create something meaningful and earn a good living through this work. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process hardly produces any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the companies.
