The long, flexible leaves of the seaweed are carefully harvested by hand, cut into thin strips and then gently dried. Thanks to its natural beauty and environmental friendliness, seagrass is the perfect choice for stylish, sustainable accessories that combine aesthetics and responsibility. ➤The Manufacturing Process: From Raw Material to Finished Bag For our Salara bags, the skilled artisans at our production partners in the Indonesian province of West Java carefully weave the seagrass fibers around a custom-made wooden frame that precisely defines the desired shape and size of the bag. The handles, also made of seaweed, are then sewn on. In total, it takes about three hours to make a bag. ➤Our production partners: Strictly selected according to fair trade criteria When selecting our local production partners, we attach importance to fair pay, safe working conditions and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small family businesses that have a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. They are exclusively adult and experienced artisans. Older people in particular, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in handicrafts, as they can use the skills they learned at an early age to earn money and pass on traditional manufacturing methods to the younger generation. They often told us how happy they were to be able to create something meaningful and earn a good living through this work. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process hardly produces any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the companies.
