Material & Manufacturing The sustainable main material: cotton Cotton is a plant fiber that grows in subtropical and tropical areas and has been used by humans for thousands of years. For our products we use sustainably sourced cotton from local farmers on Java. The fields are naturally fertilized and the cotton bolls are harvested by hand. After ginning, the cotton is pressed into bales, combed and spun into yarn by hand. Our cotton is skin-friendly and free from chemical processing and is therefore not suitable for tumble drying. Additional material: Wood. You can find out how to properly care for our products with their special materials here. The manufacturing process: From raw material to finished wall hanging For our handmade wall hangings, high-quality cotton is carefully processed into yarn and left in natural shades or dyed with vegetable dyes. Experienced artisans weave the various materials on traditional looms to create a dense, structured fabric with harmonious patterns. The braided details and fringes are then knotted with precision by hand to give the wall hanging its special depth and feel. Finally, the tapestry is stretched onto a sturdy wooden rod and provided with a robust cord so that it can be easily hung up. Our production partners: Strictly selected according to fair trade criteria When selecting our local production partners, we attach importance to fair pay, safe working conditions and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small family businesses that have a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. They are exclusively adult and experienced artisans. Older people in particular, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in handicrafts, as they can use the skills they learned at an early age to earn money and pass on traditional manufacturing methods to the younger generation. They often told us how happy they were to be able to create something meaningful and earn a good living through this work. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process hardly produces any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the companies.
