Old Tree red (black) tea - 50 g

This red tea from Taiwan allows us to talk about the origin of this type of tea on the island which has a fairly recent history. 

This tea in fact comes from a cultivar originating in the region from Assam in India that was imported into the country in the early 1960s where the creation of a cultivar suitable for the production of red and white teas on the island was being experimented with. 

The results of these experiments were the creation of a cultivar resulting from the crossing of the Assamic camellia variant with a local variety which was finally given the name of ruby ​​# 18. 

This Taiwan red tea from a 40-year-old plantation on the island is as if it were a progenitor of this recent Taiwanese cultivar, showing us the meeting point between the character of Indian flavors and those able to develop thanks to the expert workmanship of Chinese peasants who expatriated on the island years ago.
