HARUPERIA: Large Brown and Natural Wall Basket: 38cm dia

Bring a sense of ethical luxe to your home with an intricately woven wall platter from the Hwange district of Zimbabwe. Each Hwange basket is one-of-a-kind, woven in shades of white and natural palm. Although these wall platters make striking wall art alone and when hung together in a group, these shallow woven baskets can also be used for fruit and bread, or for displaying jewellery, soaps or hand towels. Traditionally, these baskets were (and are still) used for winnowing grains. These Hwange wall baskets are handwoven from ilala palm and hand dyed using natural dyes. White and natural tones and complex geometric designs characterise this collection, which can take several days to complete due to their extremely complex designs. Bringing home a Hwange wall platter is an act of support for the Hwange weaving community, enabling many women to send their children to school for the first time.
