With a bold pink rim against un-dyed grass, this woven basket will bring a shout of Ghanaian colour and style to your every day.Each shopping basket is a work of art - taking up to three days to weave by hand - and is made from robust veta vera grass which produces baskets of wonderful balance and strength. This indigenous grass is hand-rolled and dyed in boiling water before it is ready to be woven by a skilled member of our partner weaving cooperative in Northern Ghana.Most weavers in the Northern Ghana cooperative are farmers, though relying on a season’s rainfall makes for unpredictable living. Basket weaving – one of the oldest crafts known to man – has become a source of alternative income for these communities in the dry seasons, helping families to meet their basic living costs more comfortably.
