Price incl. €0.15 deposit Our fair trade cacao nibs are made from 100% pure, untreated raw cacao and come from wild Peruvian mixed cultures in the middle of the rainforest. There the cocoa is cultivated organically by farming cooperatives in a laborious manual process between the natural flora and fauna. And not just any cocoa! The noble variety Criollo is known for its particularly aromatic taste and high quality. Criollo means "the native" in Spanish and is considered the queen of cocoa - only around 1% of the world's existing cocoa makes up this variety. Because the Criollo cocoa tree is particularly sensitive and does not bear many fruits at the same time. Naturally, this type of cocoa contains less bitter substances and acid than others. The natural cultivation of Criollo cocoa by local farming cooperatives in the middle of the flora and fauna of the rainforest protects it from deforestation. The nibs are shelled, cracked cocoa beans. The raw cocoa beans are not roasted as usual, but fermented raw and then gently dried. This makes them particularly rich and wholesome.
