Wendel's card games in the desert quartet - special edition with photos by desert expert Michael Martin

The desert quartet is a special edition for us in several respects. But primarily because we developed it in cooperation with the desert expert, geographer and photographer Michael Martin. The unique recordings that Michael Martin has made over the past decades on adventurous journeys in all the deserts of the world now enrich our playing cards - we are quite proud of that. In addition to the beautiful photos, a headline, a comment and a map, you will, as always, find at least 6 categories to win: - Area: How big is the desert? - Altitude: The lowest (the deeper, the better) and the highest (the higher, the better) point of each desert are given. - If you can do arithmetic in your head, you can also play with the difference in altitude ;) - Precipitation per year: This is a challenging category, because deserts are often huge and have different amounts of precipitation in different areas, while potential evaporation (or evapotranspiration) also plays a major role in moisture in a desert. In order to get a representative value, we have therefore systematically adjusted the average rainfall of the respective deserts using the aridity index of the United Nations Environment Program. With the category precipitation you have a relatively exact house number for the dryness of the deserts. By the way, the less precipitation, the better when trumping, because a real desert has to be really dry. - Notoriety: the better known, the better! On a scale from 0 to 100, we ranked each desert based on its popularity. The number of mentions on the Internet in German and in English was included. This size may change over time and, like the other data, we update it with each new edition. - Largest settlement: Here you will find the population of the largest desert city in the respective desert. Some of these are cities with over a million inhabitants, but some are just tiny settlements. You will find the name of the city or settlement marked with an asterisk on the map of the respective desert. - Number of countries: How many countries and borders does the desert actually cover? You can find out here. You can see the abbreviations of the affected countries. If you cannot assign them, search "ISO Country Codes Alpha 2" on the Internet. Have fun with the world's first desert quartet!
