A tree can bear fruit for more than 100 years. You pick the fruits before they are fully ripe and let them dry in the sun. Star anise is the seasoning of Chinese cuisine. We have been importing star anise into Europe since the 16th. You can extract organic star anise oil from the fruit via steam distillation.
