Hey! I'm Emre, founder and art director of ELBHAVN, the Hamburg-based handmade label for high-quality leather products made from vegetable-tanned vacchetta leather. I founded with full conviction to the craft and each of my products is also made by me in sustainable manual work.
Imagine objects becoming as individual and unique as we are over time, so that we find ourselves in them more and more. This idea strengthened in me living in Italy, commuting between Milan and Florence, where I first came into contact with skilled leather artisans creating products that would last a lifetime. This belief is what ELBHAVN is all about - minimalist, timeless design using the highest quality materials paired with traditional craftsmanship to create leather products that leave a lasting impression. For eternity. Today I make my favorite pieces from start to finish with my own hands in limited editions in my Hamburg studio.
I pride myself on the fact that all of my leather collections are carefully designed, cut, finished and sewn by hand, which uses less energy than mass production on an assembly line and is inherently eco-sustainable. The nature of my craftsmanship means I work slowly and carefully, emphasizing handpicked materials and tools. The traditional craft survives short-lived trends and stays with my customers for years or even decades.
The leather is lovingly handcrafted by a family-run tannery in the heart of Tuscany, where the traditional vegetable tanning process is practiced by leather masters. The vegetable tanned vachetta leather they produce is renowned worldwide for its natural finish, luxurious smooth texture and unmatched durability. It is certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG), an international organization that assesses the environmental impact and performance of the leather industry.
Not only is the leather of the highest quality, but it is also ethically sourced. The tannery is part of the Genuine Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium, a consortium of tanneries committed to traditional and environmentally sustainable production methods.
